About Khadija

When we connected with Khadija through YWCA, her generosity with her time, openness and vibrant spirit was motivating and inspiring in itself. Then we learnt a bit more about Khadija’s impact on human rights, her campaigning, her doing, and her vision, IT IS PROFOUND. Here is a bit more about Khadija’s story.

Khadija Gbla was born in Sierra Leone. At just 3-years-old war broke out in her country, and 10 years later the family attained refugee status and resettled in Adelaide.

Described as a high profile, passionate and inspiring African Australian woman, when you talk to Khadija, she is all of that and then some. An award-winning human rights activist, inspirational speaker, facilitator and philanthropist. She displays great courage and determination, with her work and sharing her story, to achieve her aspiration of giving women, youth and minority groups a voice advocating equality and inclusion.

Khadija is the lead voice and campaigner on Female Genital Mutilation in Australia. She runs a not-for-profit organisation Ending Female Genital Mutilation Australia which works to protect Australian girls from FGM and to support survivors of FGM. And, is a TEDx speaker with close to 3 Million views on her talk, "My mother’s strange definition of empowerment", we encourage you to please take a listen and look.

But it doesn’t stop there! Khadija is ambassador for organizations such as: Our Watch – changing attitudes towards violence towards Women and children, SisterWorks – a not for profit organisation empowering refugee and migrant women to be economically independent through the model of learning by doing. In addition to all this, she is deeply involved in multiple workplaces and programs that she partners with, to encourage individuals and organizations to turn attention inward to reflect on their own potential to transform themselves and communities.

We could keep going… she is an activist, keynote speaker and an authentic changemaker through empowering individuals and communities by amplifying their voice and needs – this dynamic ‘pocket rocket’ is a new friend of everbloome and one that we are truly inspired by.
